Even if you are not a magician, you can still make your small house look larger by just following a few simple and smart tips.Irrespective of how long you have lived in a house, unwanted and useless things always seem to find a place in our homes.
Relieving yourself of these unwanted things will help you de-clutter your rooms and immediately show you how spacious your rooms actually were. During the process of clearing the unwanted stuff you may actually find the wrist watch that you had thought you lost, etc.
There will always be some things that each one of us would want to treasure for our entire lives. It is actually a great idea to start by moving these treasures to the storage area so that they are safe and surely make their way along with us to our new homes. By doing so you are already packing and at the same time enlarging your room size too!
The kitchen is the most common of all locations where most of the trash find their way. Scan all the cupboards, refrigerator and pantry for cookbooks that you have never looked into for years, gadgets and utensils, crockery that you have probably used once or twice in a year, unwanted boxes, cans, bottles, etc. Either pack these off to the storage area or sell them in a yard sale or just trash some them off. Once done you will realize that it was not difficult to feed your family the same way as you did before without the help of these clutters!
Garage, basement, attic, etc actually act like huge trash bins and hence you should clear these off their trash. Divide the things found in these areas into different buckets like storage stuff, charity stuff, yard sale stuff and trash stuff. Once you have segregated in this manner then you need not be told what you want to do with each of these buckets, do you?
When you are moving out, the easiest of all things to pack are books. There will be a major chunk of books in which you are not interested anymore. Give them away to a library or sell them off in a book sale. Get rid of all the old computer manuals that were released years earlier when you are actually using an updated version of the computer. You wouldn’t have imagined the amount of space that you will be able to free by disposing such outdated manuals.
Move the larger furniture that you want to carry along to storage and rearrange the remaining. Ensure there are large enough pathways leading into each room. Keep decorations to the least and place the furniture at angles to “release” space.
Replace heavy and dark curtains with lighter, sheer ones, in case you are painting, paint the walls lighter than the carpet color and the ceilings lighter than the walls.
